Refugee-Led Café’s Sushi Class Open to the Public

Event Date:

February 24, 2024

Event Time:

1:00 pm

Event Location:

Plateful Café

In the heart of Lewisham, Plateful Café stands as a beacon of community support, being a
refugee-led establishment that goes beyond being just a restaurant. On 24th February, this new
community initiative invites the public to attend its first sushi demonstration. Representing
Plateful Café’s vision, this class provides valuable training for refugees – fostering employment
opportunities, personal connections, and sustainable support for the livelihoods of
asylum-seekers and their families.

Led by the talented volunteer and former sushi chef, Riskon, participants will learn how to make
popular sushi recipes – Hosomaki, Futomaki, and California Rolls. This hands-on experience
promises an enriching journey through the world of sushi creation – providing a platform for
cultural exchange and celebration in a light-hearted and engaging atmosphere. Our delightful
dining experience is complemented by a tantalising combination of prawn crackers and
comforting miso soup, creating the perfect weekend lunch.

Offering vegetarian and vegan-friendly recipes, everyone is welcome to learn, make and taste
their creations at the Plateful Café’s sushi class, as well as connect with an international
community dedicated to supporting refugees in London.
