Job Brief: We are seeking a highly motivated Kitchen Manager to oversee daily operations, manage and train staff who have never worked in a commercial kitchen. You will be responsible for scheduling shifts, monitoring expenses and revenues, ordering supplies, and ensuring compliance with health and hygiene regulations. Ultimately, you will drive profitability, customer engagement, and help establish our cafe as a favourite local spot.

Responsibilities:

  • Manage day-to-day operations of the cafe, including opening and closing the building, organising chefs, ensuring food service and preparation follows health and hygiene regulations, overseeing food service to customers, and managing petty cash.
  • Hire and onboard new staff and volunteers, and provide training on food preparation and proper use of equipment.
  • Coordinate with vendors and order supplies such as takeaway cups, coffee, milk, and other ingredients as needed.
  • Maintain accurate records of daily, weekly, and monthly revenues and expenses.
  • Introduce new menu items based on seasonality and customer preferences.
  • Provide guidance to staff on handling client issues and delivering excellent customer service.
  • Ensure all cafe areas are clean and tidy and maintain a safe and supportive environment for volunteers and customers.
  • Assist with catering for external events and pop-up bistros as needed.
  • Comply with all relevant policies and procedures as agreed by the board of Trustees.
  • Plan for changes to the service, troubleshoot issues, acquire storage, create new systems, and consider contingency plans.

Requirements and Skills:

  • Work experience as a Kitchen Manager with hands-on experience in professional catering equipment.
  • Experience in Training staff
  • Availability to work within opening hours, including weekends and holidays.
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to manage and motivate a team.
  • Customer service attitude.
