Volunteer Roles at Plateful Cafe
Volunteers are the lifeblood of Plateful Cafe
We always need help with fundraising, admin, social media, and more.
Please view our current open roles below.
I volunteer at Plateful Café because I’m inspired by its mission to empower local refugees through food. Through my three years at the café I’ve met such fantastic people – both refugees and volunteers who are all committed to making our community a more inclusive and delicious place!

Our Current Open Roles
We’re always on the look out for dedicated volunteers, whatever your skills or background. If you don’t see a role that fits below of feel you have something else to offer them please make an open application here.
Volunteer Roles for Asylum Seekers
At Plateful Café, we believe everyone deserves the opportunity to feel valued, active, and connected. We offer volunteering opportunities to people seeking asylum who are not permitted to work while awaiting a decision on their status. Many asylum seekers live in hostels or temporary accommodation and can spend months, or even years, with little to do beyond waiting for a Home Office decision.
Our volunteering programme provides structure, purpose, and community, helping people develop skills, build confidence, and maintain wellbeing during an uncertain and often isolating time.

There are so many incredible things about volunteering at Plateful Cafe. Above all, getting to play a small part in the organisation’s mission is the most fulfilling - Plateful is doing amazing work to support refugees and asylum seekers access the upskilling and employment opportunities they need, as well as encouraging a sense of understanding, empathy and integration within the local community. On top of that, the chefs are so talented and make absolutely delicious food.
Spending time alongside the chefs—many of whom are refugees from diverse backgrounds—has given me a profound insight into the lives they have left behind and the dreams they carry for a brighter future here in the UK. The shared moments over meals and kitchen tasks have connected us through laughter, learning, and resilience.
I was inspired by the amazing work that Plateful Cafe does in bringing communities together and bridging cultural divides. With increasingly negative attitudes towards migrants and refugees being spread online and across the media, the work that Plateful Cafe does is more important than ever - and I'm excited to even be just one small part of it.
